It’s hard to completely erase something from the internet, and Ubisoft is finding out the hard way after an accidental leak of a remaster of its 2003 action-adventure game Beyond good and evil to some lucky Ubisoft+ subscribers.

How noticed PC gamerUbisoft has reportedly given members of its $18-a-month subscription service short access Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition. This version of the game isthe existence of which became known a little earlier this year— will feature 4K visuals and 60fps performance “with improved graphics, controls, and audio, as well as all-new autosave and crosssave features,” according to the now-deleted Xbox Store listing. quoted by trades tweeter Wario64.
Ubisoft making the game available was a complete fluke; however, that hasn’t stopped people from sharing clips and screens from BG&E remastered on YouTube. While the company tried to erase any evidence that this ever happened, copyright infringing anyone who posted leaked footage of the game, Ubisoft eventually gave up and announced this morning on X/Twitter that the remaster is real.
“Well, looks like the cat’s out of the bag, dammit,” the company tweeted. “Happy 20th anniversary Beyond good and evil! While we can’t wait to show you more about this special edition, more news will follow in early 2024!”
But what really happened here? Well, it seems it was a technical error on the part of the company. In an email to My cityA Ubisoft representative confirmed that the leak was his fault.
“Due to a technical error, the early development version Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition was recently released to select Ubisoft+ subscribers,” said a Ubisoft spokesperson. “When we celebrate the 20th anniversary Beyond good and evilWe are pleased to announce that the official launch is scheduled for early 2024 and we look forward to sharing more details with you in the new year.”
It’s important to note the “early development version” in the company’s statement, as Ubisoft later clarified that what people could see in the large amount of gameplay leaks online “is not indicative of the final game.” While the leaked clips and screens are not final, we can at least wait BG&E the remaster looks pretty good.

20 years have passed since then Beyond good and evil debuted. The sequel to the famous action-adventure game was teased for about a decade before being officially announced in 2017. However, BG&E 2 has been the Ministry of Internal Affairs since its disclosure—and BG&E lead creatively Michel Ansel left the company amid a cloud of controversy– however Ubisoft swears the game is still in development.
