Ned Luke, who voices Michael De Santa in Rockstar’s wildly popular game Grand Theft Auto 5, was shot during a live stream on Thanksgiving Day. This is the sixth time that the actor has been subjected to such harassment.
“Everything is fine, thank you for your concern,” says the actor tweeted on Friday. “This is the SIXTH time we’ve been beaten, but the originality should be noted, this time they sent the fire department. There is nothing cute, clever or funny about it.’
Luke often live-streams his gameplay and was in the middle of a special GTA live stream when he got a call with an apparent warning of what was to come. Luke rose from his chair, telling viewers: “I’ve got to go,” before ending the broadcast. But after six attempts to disrupt his life (and potentially endanger his safety), the voice actor confirmed that law enforcement is now looking for the culprit.
“… in a way I feel sorry for the person or group of people who are pulling these pranks,” Luke wrote in a follow-up tweet. “However, authorities are on the trail and have some significant evidence in their hands that will hopefully lead to the pasta-eating clown mom’s basement.”
In recent days, Luke has been live streaming his GTA 5 gameplay in honor of the game’s 10th anniversary. As for the motive for the crime, Luke has several theories.
“I guess the intent is to shut me down, harass me and not reassure me,” he wrote on Twitter. “Guess what? It’s not working. I’m not scared. I’m not losing any sleep. And I’m not going to give up. It’s my 10th anniversary now. It’s going to go on and on.”
Luke ended his comments by defending GTA publisher Rockstar Games, as some fans speculated that Rockstar’s choice not to mask players’ IP addresses could have caused the incident.
“My private information was NOT obtained from my live stream or from GTA Online,” Luke explained. “It was leaked years ago by someone who was doing a routine internet search and thought it would be cute to put it out there. Rockstar Games is NOT to blame.”
