September is a great month to catch up on some much-needed sleep if you’re Green Day, and an even better month for those looking to dive into new games across genres. While October is approaching with a slew of new releases the likes of which we haven’t seen in years, September is all it has to offer.
The most anticipated release of the month is Starfield, an Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusive that’s been years in the making. Bethesda’s big return to the AAA scene, Starfield is the biggest game of the current Xbox era, a massive journey through the universe where players will find their destiny in the stars. Will you be an intrepid explorer crossing the final frontier, a space pirate making a nefarious living, or a diplomat weaving between the politics of multiple factions? The choice is yours when Starfield arrives in early September.
For fans of fighting games who want to take part in brutal fights, Mortal Kombat 1 is sure to be a huge event. A semi-reboot of the franchise that breaks new ground for the series while maintaining its history, Mortal Kombat 1 looks like a time well spent with its intriguing story, characteristically wild fights, and steadfast refusal to believe that the letter “C” exists.
Another game to look out for is Baldur’s Gate 3, coming to PS5 in September. After a successful launch on PC – and with an Xbox Series X|S version on the way – Baldur’s Gate 3 brings its magic to PlayStation 5, a game where you can explore fantasy lands, fight titanic monsters and punch a squirrel in the bloody guts if you want succeed in rolling a D20.
On a lighter but equally intense note, EA Sports takes to the field with the first entry in its new soccer franchise, EA Sports FC 24. It’s the start of a new series that breaks away from decades of FIFA games, but don’t worry soccer fans, because this game you can still expect familiar gameplay, new improvements and plenty of official club support.
Other highlights this month include the ambitious Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty, the Bloodborne-like Lies of P and The Crew Motorfest.
