Liblast is an interesting open source project that uses completely free tools centered on the Godot game engine. This is a community project, and the most impressive thing is that the entire skeleton of the game is there. It has matchmaking, multiplayer games with different types of weapons and maps.
The goals of the project are as follows:
Main goals:
- Create a fun open source game for everyone
- Prove that free creative tools are enough to make a good game – we only use open source software in production
- Have fun, get to know and grow with the project
Secondary objectives:
- Push the boundaries of open source FPS games in terms of consistent design, style, technology and overall quality
- Let the game play on lower-end computers, but provide higher fidelity for those with more powerful hardware
- Allow joining the game from a web browser for quick sessions, and provide a downloadable package for home or portable use
- Actively contribute to the development of the Godot engine and other open source tools we depend on
- Facilitate third-party content with mods
- Create additional online accounts to securely store user data and protect their in-game identity
