Bye takes us on a stunning open-world tropical adventure where you play as a young girl with an imagination who can transform into animals and objects to explore.
Thia, our main character, is on a quest to explore a new island and save her father from the ruler of the area. Despite this daunting mission, the game is filled with wonderful exploration. You can even take control of the objects and animals you find by becoming them. You can fly like a bird, seeing the island from above, or you can roll like a tire, speeding around the sand. This power is quite unique and interesting in the way it is implemented.
Part of the open world aspect Bye allowing you to explore and interact with what you want. There are quests that can help you advance your story, but there are plenty of little mini-games that you can just play. You can chill out playing the ukulele whenever you want, shoot random things with a slingshot, and slide down mountaintops.
World in Bye stunning and wonderful to study. There is a great connection with nature and it is interesting to see what you can do in each area and what you can interact with. The characters you’ll meet along the way are also inspired by New Caledonian culture, providing a diverse cast of people, each with their own stories to tell.
I got a chance to play some games at GDC this year and fell in love with the world. I love coming of age stories and this one is so far from my own that it was fresh and new to explore such a unique island. Bye it’s a very exciting game to check out, especially if you’re a fan of indie lifestyle games.
Tchia is now available on the PlayStation Store and Epic Games Store.
