Cloud empire Star citizen will soon receive more than $600 million from fans, according to the game’s website. At the time of writing, the game cost just over $5,000 to reach this level of funding, and it remains one of the most expensive games ever developed.
As for people, the game had 4.76 million fans. CCU Game reports that the game has received $59 million in funding this year, with $19.1 million since May alone (the biggest month to date).
A daily check of backers shows that Cloud Imperium is receiving between $50,000 (this was August 18) and $186,000 (August 23). The number of supporters as of today, August 25, has not yet been disclosed.
By years, 2022 has passed Star Citizen’s the most funded year overall at $110 million. 2023 is currently the fourth-highest player support year behind 2022, 2021 ($86 million) and 2020 ($78 million).

Star citizen originally started its funding period at the end of October 2012, and has raised more and more money from crowdfunding over the years. In 2018, the game developer reported raising $200 million, which highlights how far and how long it’s come.
The game itself is currently available and in alpha testing. Its latest build update was released earlier in August.
At that time Star citizen crowdfunding, Cloud Imperium managed to open new studios in both Germany and the UK, Crytek sued (and settled) and raised millions in private equity. Most recently, it acquired Turbulent Games, the studio it helped develop for eight years.
