Australian studio League of Geeks is hibernating for the “foreseeable future.”
Company laid off more than 50 percent of its workforce in December 2023 and said that the current “economic situation” in the gaming industry has made creating games an “excruciatingly difficult” business.
The League of Geeks founders explained that the vast majority of staff had already moved on, but added that “those who remain will be taking well-deserved time off over the next few months.”
“We’re not sure if (or when) we’ll resurrect this great beast, but we’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve accomplished, both the experiences we’ve created together and the great developers who made LoG the world it is. the classroom environment, the peers we inspired along the way, and of course those members of the community who believed in what we did, how we did it, and fiercely supported us in those beliefs.” reads the statement.
“Now is the time to rest, play and get other opportunities. As for our games… they will remain online and supported during this period.”
While limited support for the project will continue in the form of bug fixes and minor content, League of Geeks has confirmed that active development on Hell alone ended. “Unfortunately, its sales revenue cannot fund further active development or DLC,” the studio added.
Jumplight Odyssey remains on hiatus, but the studio hopes to bring the title out of Early Access at some point next year. However, this does not mean the official release of v1.0.
“Jumplight Odyssey at the moment did not find viable and timely investments that would restore the development of the name. We would love nothing more than to see this project finished, but unfortunately development will be on hiatus,” the studio continued.
“We plan to take it out of early access at some point in the next 12 months. It’s unlikely to be the fully realized v1.0 release we originally planned, though we’ll try to find some way to include the game with our limited resources left.”
Armela will continue to “cruise” as it has for the past few years with changing seasonal content. League of Geeks’ hibernation won’t affect Armello’s board game plans, mainly because King of the Castle Games is overseeing the project.
