Sony Interactive Entertainment has entered into an agreement to buy audio specialist Audeze.
No figures were provided for the deal, which will keep the headphone and audio equipment company as an independent entity. Audeze makes headphones for professionals, hobbyists and gamers.
“Audeze is a leading headphone brand, and this acquisition underscores Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best sound for PlayStation players,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president of platform experience, Hideaki Nishino.
“We’re excited to bring the Audeze expertise to the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great success we’ve had with AudioTech’s Tempest 3D for PlayStation 5 and the Pulse 3D wireless headset.”
Audeze CEO Sankar Thiagasamudram added: “Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to grow our business as we continue our mission to deliver best-in-class headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles and gamers. We also look forward to contributing to Sony Interactive’s efforts to take PlayStation sound to the next level.”
While Sony Interactive Entertainment has long been exclusively a console business, it is increasingly bringing its IPs and franchises to PC, albeit long after they first debuted on PlayStation hardware.
