If Supervision 2 moved the hero shooter economy from loot boxes to the season battle pass, the customizable mythic skins unlocked at the end of this pass were featured as a light on the end of a cumbersome tunnel. Unlike others Supervision skins, they would be somewhat customizable, offering several style and color options for players to make their own. In the game’s first year, seven of its iconic characters received one of these mythic skins, which were mostly well-received. But after Blizzard introduced the Season 8 skin for Orisa’s tank character, players noticed a downward trend in the quality of the Mythic Skin.
Credit where credit is due, there have been some amazing Mythic Skins since then Supervision 2 launched last year. Tracer’s Adventurer skin allows her to take on the appearance of various fantasy hero archetypes, Ana’s A-7000 Wargod skin transforms her into an Omnic robot with a fascinating backstory, and Kiriko Amaterasu’s skin is one of the most impressive of all her looks. took Supervision 2 eight seasons to add a skin for one of the characters I play, I respect the work Blizzard did to create a skin that was malleable and worth unlocking the battle pass for. Until now.
Each of the previous Mythic skins comes with different interchangeable color palettes, weapon skins, and costume parts. Want Tracer to have a hood? Maybe a soldier’s helmet? You no longer owe her a regular haircut. Mixing and matching different colors, weapons, and costumes is what Mythic Skins is all about, but the last two seasons have taken away some of that personalization.
The Onryō Hanzo skin has fewer customization options than any previous Mythic Skin, only allows you to change the color palette and shape of your bow. While this changes Hanzo’s voice to something more demonic and scary, there’s no way to personalize Hanzo’s armor or anything about his appearance, really. Just pick your favorite color and if you like bow #1 or #2, go back to headshots. Based on the description of Orissa’s upcoming Grand Beast skin, it sounds like Supervision 2The centaur robot guard guarding the intersection gets a similar treatment – and to make matters worse, the skin doesn’t look all that unique.
How some fans have already pointed out, Orissa’s base Mythic Skin already bears a striking resemblance to her Megasoma bug-like skin, which also has a yellow-purple color scheme. The reveal the trailer confirms that you will be able to change it to dark purple and red or blue and white, and customize the gun on the right hand. But it doesn’t look like any other aspect of the cosmetics can be tweaked – no changes to the headgear, torso or legs. Like Hanzo from last season, Orisa’s skin appears to change the sound of her beeps, and her Terra Surge ultimate now whips up a sand-filled twister when she draws enemies towards her. But the setup we had in previous seasons is gone.
I grind through each one Supervision 2 battle pass to the detriment of other games in 2023. But I did it primarily to unlock all the extra cosmetics along the way, since the first seven seasons didn’t include a mythic skin for any of the characters I play. Orisa is my go-to tank, and while I was happy to see her finally get some love, I was sad that it didn’t happen before Blizzard started taking away the customization of these rare skins. Mythic Skins haven’t felt like the prize at the end of the Battle Pass for two seasons now, and yet Supervision 2 there are plenty of other cosmetics to unlock (or pay for), too bad those coveted trophies aren’t as good as recent event skins– however fans disagree about their valuetoo.
