If you’ve ever wanted to experience metal detecting, looking for history in the ground with a metal detector, but don’t want the hassle of finding new permits, the expense of buying a whole new detector OR finding bottle caps, ring hooks and large iron crud, then you might be interested. this new work-in-progress showcase called Ireland’s Hidden Gems. A new Amiga game where you explore historical sites to find ancient artefacts without being exposed to Hank the Night Traders ;).
Here’s the latest from the creator. “I sincerely welcome everyone. I would like to introduce you to my new game created in Backbone. Why Backbone? Because I don’t know how to program and BB is a great tool for creating games. Of course, the program has many limitations, like any other on amiga, and ultimately I would like to have the game rewritten by some talented programmer, adding many ideas that I couldn’t use here.It was intended to be an educational and adventure game, but due to engine limitations, arcade elements came.”
“After starting the game, a book appears that we can browse by tilting the joystick down. From it we can learn about many castles on the island, when they were built, by whom, etc. After pressing “fire” a picture of the lock appears in 320×512 Ham6 (CLICK) and after the player has the same lock in the background, the task is to find 8 buried artifacts in each of the 20 levels Complete the level. Items are invisible and are collected automatically after encountering the player. In the new version of the game, I would like the encounter to only work with the metal detector coil and allow the player to dig up the item. land”.
“After completing each level, a 640×512 16 grayscale picture of the collected artifacts is displayed (CLICK). I wanted a high resolution to see as much detail as possible. In addition, it would be nice if after completing the mission the items were not always the same and were taken from the pool of items. I’m still waiting to add descriptions under the artifacts, but for that I have to contact the archaeologist, because I can describe barely half of the objects in the 24-bit version is also prepared, and the AGA backgrounds would be created with Scenery Animator 4.0” .
