When concept art and trailers for The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom began circulating online months before the game’s release, fans of the franchise went wild with speculation about the upcoming game’s storyline and gameplay. But there was one thing almost everyone agreed on: Ganondorf’s new look it was hot. In a recent interview with Nintendo Dream magazine (translated by Nintendo Everything), Tears Of The Kingdom director Hidemaro Fujibayashi confirmed that Ganondorf’s new design was intentionally sexual.
Fujibayashi said he had two goals when it came to Ganondorf’s new appearance in Tears Of The Kingdom: make him look as terrifying as he is, and make him look hot enough to players of either gender passed out.
“[The design team] didn’t just make him look tough; they succeeded in fulfilling my desire to make him look extremely evil while being handsome enough to make both men and women fall in love with him,” said Fujibayashi.
Ganondorf has always changed in every game he’s appeared in, but historically his appearance has leaned more toward menace than attractiveness, so it’s no wonder players were surprised when this “new” Ganondorf was revealed in all his regal, ripped, man bun-sporting glory.
“We put a lot of thought into the choice of his clothing and accessories, keeping in mind that Ganondorf himself must have a strong sense of beauty and good taste,” Fujibayashi explained regarding King Gerud’s outfit choices. “We thought he was likely to be a character who paid a lot of attention to his appearance, showing his dignity and intelligence as a king, and in creating him with that in mind, we paid attention to his face, his body, right down to his fingertips, making he looks strong and sexy at the same time.”
Based on the players’ reactions to Ganondorf’s new appearance, it’s safe to say that Fujibayashi and his team have successfully achieved their goals.
