The hardest thing about Destiny 2 there is make any of your friends play it. Fans of Bungie’s ambitious and imaginative sci-fi shooter have long hoped for a simple ramp that would ease players and newcomers back into the universe. Destiny 2The new “Starter Pack” might sound like that. Instead, it’s an expensive collection of random items that fans can’t stop at.
The season of wishing began today with an exciting trailer and new missions involving collecting dragon eggs to defeat an old enemy. But players have also noticed a new DLC addition for PSN, Xbox and Steam that arrived with the latest update. It is called Destiny 2 Starter pack, it costs $15 and is one of the funniest microtransactions I’ve seen. Contrary to what its name suggests, the Starter Pack does not include any expansions, missions, or story content. It’s just a random assortment of things meant to “replenish” players’ arsenals. Here’s what’s included:
- The chosen one of the traveler
- A destructive stuffed animal
- They pretend to be asleep
- Exotic ship
- Exotic sparrow
- Exotic ghost shell
- 125,000 Glimmer
- 50 improvement cores
- 5 prisms of improvement
- 1 Ascending shard

These first three items are old exotic weapons that have been in the game since 2019 or earlier. They’re mostly good, but only go with certain builds, and they can all be bought from the Tower Kiosk without too much fuss. The ship, sparrow, and ghost shell are purely cosmetic and entirely a matter of personal taste. The ones included in the Starter Pack are far from the best designs in the game, at least in my opinion.
The materials, meanwhile, are rather stingy. Glimmer is there Destiny 2the main in-game currency that is earned by anything. Cores, Prisms, and Ascendant Shards (what players affectionately refer to as “golf balls”) are for focusing engrams, warping gear, and crafting new items, none of which are particularly useful to new players or have much values in the offered quantity. Not even enough quite a skill a new piece of armor. This is an amazing set of gear that can be purchased for more than the price of an entire season of the game.
“I’d say it’s pay-to-win, but really it’s just a waste of money,” wrote one player on Fate subreddit. “Pay to lose.” Another wrote: “This is pathetic. 3 mid-range exotics, some crap cosmetics and some materials not worth that much. The real starter pack will be the weapons and old DLC.’
There are three broad barriers to returning players Destiny 2. First, most of the story is no longer in the game due to the content vault. The second is that Destiny 2The New Light campaign remains fairly simple and offers no real direction of action in the end game. And third: despite the fact that the game is supposedly free, all add-ons are paid, and unlocking access to everything is quite expensive. Shadowkeep, the stunning expansion of 2019, is still normally priced at $25. The starter pack only adds to the hype, confusing players with descriptions like “Fly between destinations in your new exotic ship.” Narrator Voice: Exotic Ships is just a custom loading screen animation.
The launch pack also comes in the context of layoffs at Bungie amid the delay 2024 year The final form expansion and reported a lack of income. At a time when the studio is apparently desperate for cash, the $15 package only highlights the chasm between players and who leads Destiny 2monetization strategy. It’s one thing to milk whales, but how Destiny 2 As players point out, the new starter pack seems to be aimed at taking advantage of new players who don’t know any better. In the words of one of them, “This is crap for mobile games.”
