According to Variety, Amazon is set to expand the Boys universe with a new series set in Mexico City. The spin-off, tentatively titled The Boys: Mexico, is in the hands of writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcacer (“The Blue Beetle,” “El Muerto”), with Diego Luna (Andor) and Gael García Bernal (Cassandra) as executive producers and potential supporting actors. roles, although nothing has been confirmed at this time.
Similarly, details about The Boys: Mexico, including its production, remain under wraps, and the search is on for one of the showrunners to join Dunnet-Alcocer. The team is now focused on script development and budget planning for filming in Latin America. Eric Kripke, creator of the original series, is part of the creative force behind The Boys: Mexico, which includes Kripke Enterprises, Point Gray Pictures, Original Film, Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Lorelei Alba is expected to oversee Point Grey.
Adapted from the Garth Ennis/Derrick Robertson comics, The Boys offers a starkly satirical look at corrupt superheroes and the consequences of unchecked power. The Prime Video series has already spawned successful spin-offs, including the animated The Boys Presents: Diabolical and the YA (sort of) college spinoff Gen V. The upcoming Mexico series will be the fourth installment in The Boys franchise.
The Boys: Mexico is part of Amazon’s strategy to explore local production following the success of The Boys as one of the platform’s most popular originals.
Also, Homelander’s cameo in Gen V was a great moment for the franchise. However, footage of actor Anthony Starr making the rounds online shows that filming the cameo turned into a nightmare due to a particularly tricky stunt. See some properly raunchy footage of the actor expressing regret for agreeing to the stunt.
