Former Ubisoft Massive boss David Polfeldt has headed Bespoke Pixel, a studio based in Barcelona.
As reported by VentureBeat, the fledgling studio has raised $25 million and is currently working on several projects. Bespoke Pixel’s website has few details, but notes that the studio was founded in 2024 by a group of “industry veterans” and aims to create “world-class entertainment in an intensely collaborative environment.”
“We adhere to the traits we know make a great team: friendliness, professional curiosity and 100 percent honesty with the players.” reads the site. “While we are currently keeping our current projects under wraps, we do not hesitate to admit that we have sky-high ambitions. We don’t compromise because we’re obsessed with quality.”
Pohlfeldt will lead the indie studio, which previously worked on titles, among other things Department, Avatar: The Borderlands of Pandoraand Far Cry 3.
Polfeld finds a new home after Ubisoft’s exit
Ubisoft veteran left the French publisher in March 2022 shortly after leaving the post of head of the Ubisoft Massive studio.
Polfeldt initially said he would take a six-month leave of absence before returning to the company in a new role, but ultimately decided to leave, deeming himself unfit for the role.
“I think my philosophy and my skills work well for a certain size group, I don’t think I’m the right manager for what the studio has become,” he commented at the time. “I’m completely at peace with that.”
Bespoke Pixel intends to stay “relatively small” while it focuses on game prototyping, and notes that all workers must be available on site five days a week. “Dynamic interaction with intelligent people is a cornerstone of our production process,” the studio added, explaining why it avoids working remotely.
Longer term, Polfeldt told VentureBeat that Bespoke Pixel intends to create “original intellectual property” focused on “sophisticated and well-designed gameplay.”
