At its recent Worldwide Development Conference, Apple unveiled a new update to its Game Porting Toolkit 2. The update makes it easier (and faster) for developers to port their games to Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
In his own blog, Apple noted that the update has features most requested by developers. Along with improved compatibility with Windows games, the update allows developers to unify their code and shaders across devices.
Creating games for the Mac can sometimes be difficult, and Apple aims to reduce this issue. GPT 2 stores “precious [development] of time,” the report says, regardless of whether the project is a true port or a game already in development for Apple devices.
So “advanced” games can now be released more easily on the Mac. According to this update, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown can now be played on Mac, along with Dead Island 2, Resident Evil 7, and more.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows and World of Warcraft: The War Within will also be available on Mac at their respective launches.
This update also comes as Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 the remake should be released on Apple devices in Julyand will help triple-A developers bring their big titles to new non-console formats.
