American publishing giant Activision Blizzard requires quality assurance employees to come to the office for work.
According to A Better ABK group staff, the publisher said it will end remote and hybrid work in November. It affects staff in Minneapolis, Austin and El Segundo.
In a statement on Twitter, the organization said that workers are facing job insecurity as a result, but noted that Activision Blizzard will offer severance pay to employees who choose to no longer work for the company as a result of these changes.
“The job security of many QA staff was already precarious due to the hybrid job announcement earlier this year,” writes A Better ABK.
“Since then, hundreds of staff have corresponded with the placement team to try to secure permanent work from home due to disability, financial difficulties or other factors.
“Many of these requests have been rejected outright, and many others have been offered office space that does not adequately meet the needs of employees.”
Activision Blizzard confirmed the changes in a statement.
“We have made the decision to move from a hybrid work schedule to a full-time office model for Activision QA in Minneapolis, Austin, and El Segundo to facilitate a best-in-class QA function and the best provision for our players,” they said. .
“We are serious about supporting employees with disabilities, different abilities, mental health requirements and changing medical needs.”
