If you’re a gamer, chances are you have a favorite video game character. And if that character happens to be from a cult game, why not cosplay as them? With Halloween just over a month away, it’s time to start making costumes if you want to be prepared. To help all cosplayers and gamers prepare for this important holiday, here are our top picks for iconic video game characters to cosplay.
Kylo Ren and Obi-Wan Kenobi is the best of Kylo Ren
Maybe you’re ready to cosplay as one of the main characters in the new Star Wars movies, but don’t know who to choose. Kyla Ren and Obi-Wan Kenobi are outstanding and important characters in their own right. Plus, they can both be worn for Halloween or other costume parties due to the popularity of the Star Wars franchise.
Kyla Ren is one of the most important villains in The Force Awakens, along with Supreme Leader Snoke (who doesn’t appear until later). He is also the series’ first villain with a lightsaber since Darth Maul was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is an iconic Jedi Master who was trained by Yoda himself. He played an important role as Anakin Skywalker’s mentor before joining Luke Skywalker during Return of the Jedi as he helped restore balance to our galaxy. Do I even need to mention the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series? We think not.
Mario and Princess Peach (Mario Bros)
The most iconic video game characters of all time, Mario and Princess Peach are the perfect costumes to wear together. Mario is the protagonist of the Mario Bros series and is known for his iconic plumber look. He is wearing a red jumpsuit with a blue shirt underneath with white buttons. The symbol M is depicted on his signature cap.
Princess Peach is known as the damsel in distress in the Mario Bros. video game franchise. She is wearing an elegant pink dress with yellow trim around the neckline, sleeves and bottom edge of the skirt. Not only that, but Princess Peach also has her own castle just for art!
Alice & T-virus Mutant (Resident Evil)
Alice is a character from the Resident Evil film series. She is infected with the T-virus, but has not mutated like everyone else. Although Alice is not a main character in the video game franchise (in fact, she never appeared!), thanks to Milla Jovovich’s portrayal of the character in the Resident Evil film franchise, this is a cosplay seen every year among cosplayers. There are two versions of this pair of costumes, one is a mutant T-Virus and the other is Alice herself, although she is not in the video games.
Cosplaying both characters is very popular, but becoming a mutant T-Virus? Recommended materials are pool noodles, bubble wrap, lots of red and black paint, and facial prostheses together. Don’t scare yourself! However, scaring other people is one of the main points of creating and wearing this cosplay. For an Alice cosplay? Think if Lara Croft met Mad Max in the Call of Duty universe and boom! You just cosplayed Alice from the Resident Evil series.
Pac-Man & Ms. Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Pac-Man is the most iconic character in video game history, and for good reason. It’s no secret that Pac-Man has been around since 1980 — it was one of the first games to popularize arcade gaming. The characters in this game are simple and easy to dress up.
This is a popular cosplay. Not only for individuals, but also for couples. There are countless people who have married at conventions or even just attended simple character displays at events who have decided to tie the knot. Who says cosplay can’t make people spontaneous when it comes to personality and love?
To dress up as these iconic characters, I have two tips: yellow circles and black triangles. These two uniforms are the epitome of the iconic Pac-Man costume. That it was Ms. Pac-Man’s costume? Add lips and a bow. Congratulations! You’ve just cosplayed two of the most iconic video game characters ever created.
Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Wengerberg (The Witcher)
Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg are two of the most popular characters in The Witcher video game series. While Geralt is a human and magically created mutant known as the Witcher, created to defeat monsters, Yennefer is a sorceress with phenomenal magical abilities and a desire to become someone important. While Geralt is known for his distinctive white hair, yellow eyes, and sorcerer mutations, Yennefer is known for her bright purple eyes, fiery personality, and magical prowess.
They both use magic, Yennefer as a habit and profession, and Geralt as a mutant created with magic and uses magic to fight monsters in a world where these services are highly paid and profitable. As Yennefer is a quarter-elf, her magical abilities are superior to those of her fellow mages, while Geralt can use magic in the form of Witcher marks, as well as enhanced Witcher abilities through the use of potions and elixirs.
Keeper of Soraka and Sivir (League of Legends)
These two characters are some of the most popular and iconic in their respective franchises, making them a great choice for cosplayers. As one of the most powerful healers in League of Legends (LoL), Guardian Soraka is a great choice for those who want to go all out with their cosplay. She has some of the most intense healing powers ever seen in LoL and can be a formidable foe. With a staff and an astrologer’s cap draped over her flowing hair, she appears as an angelic figure with a mysterious background.
If you’ve seen any gameplay videos from pro players or tournaments, then you’ve probably seen this character at work before! Sivir is another iconic character that made our list because she is so memorable among League players that many people would be able to recognize her even if she was only wearing black leather pants and boots during all of her public appearances (which she , probably not ‘t).
Master Chief and Cortana (Halo)
Cortana and Master Chief are a couple anyone can get. She’s an AI, but she’s also deeply integrated into the Halo story as Master Chief’s trusted companion. In fact, she is one of the few characters to appear in every single game released in the series (including a cameo in Halo 3: ODST).
In many ways, this relationship is an example of what can happen when two people are around each other for a long time. Together they killed aliens and saved humanity from destruction several times; Cortana’s knowledge of people gives her a better understanding of how to relate to them and their emotions – something that will come in handy if you ever cosplay her!
Link and Princess Zelda (The Legend of Zelda)
Zelda and Link are the main characters of The Legend of Zelda franchise. They are often pictured as a couple, but that doesn’t always have to be the case if you choose not to include a romantic aspect to your cosplay!
Link is a young boy who is the hero of Hyrule, a kingdom that needs saving. He is often seen wielding his trusty sword and shield, wearing green clothes and red boots. To truly embody Link, remember to act like a normal person who has just embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. This is literally Link to Core.
Zelda is the princess of Hyrule and is usually depicted wearing blue or purple clothing along with an ornate headdress/crown on her head. Although the video game series is called The Legend of Zelda, Princess Zelda is not a character in the video games.
