Mission:
Join us to contribute to a ground-breaking collection of research and white papers dedicated to exploring the intersection of gaming and sustainability. We invite abstracts from both industry professionals and academics who are passionate about positive change in the gaming industry. Together, we’re writing a book about going beyond simple cleaning and working together on systemic solutions. Let’s create games for a sustainable world, sustainable!
In this upcoming publication, we aim to distinguish between genuine sustainability efforts and the simple greenwashing tactics prevalent in the industry. Our editorial team will carefully review the abstracts, selecting those that can offer meaningful insights and practical solutions to pressing sustainability challenges in games and a compelling vision of how we can achieve a sustainable future.
Our goal is to empower people and organizations in the gaming industry who want to make a meaningful contribution to sustainable development. Book:
For industry professionals, this book is a way to highlight both the challenges you face and your approach to them, to connect this with evidence-based research. For researchers, organizers and activists, it provides real impact and a chance to apply their findings in concrete and impactful ways. For all of us, it’s a chance to work with like-minded people to propose pragmatic solutions and build a community for the sustainable development of the gaming industry.
As a book aimed at counseling practitioners, the essays and studies will be organized into thematic sections. The editors will work with the authors to organize the essays accordingly. The editors will also provide a framework for each topic-focused chapter that frames the authors’ work in the context of real-life stories, practical examples, and actionable advice. To facilitate this connected organization, and to ensure that each contributor knows what is being said in the chapters before and after his own, we are planning a digital meeting between editors and contributors for each topic. At this meeting, we will give feedback on each other’s drafts, find common ground, and strengthen the book’s argument by meeting people who work in our field.
In order to respect your time and work, and to make such a meeting possible during the editing process, the editors aim to deliver materials quickly within 2-3 weeks.
Contributions:
Max. 8000 words written in accessible language. Shorter contributions, especially practice-based and project-based contributions, are also clearly welcome. Specialized terms and concepts will be explained, and no assumption will be made that the reader is a researcher or specialist in a given field of development. At the same time, it will be possible to use scientific and other references. About 50 black-and-white illustrations are available throughout the book. We accept applications with multiple authors, as well as more than one application per author.
Given that we welcome contributions from a variety of fields, the sections may look quite different. Some may be an academic text, while others may be an explanation of a successful organizational process or a tip for effective design. We try to accommodate these differences in the structure of the book and encourage the addition of materials with practical topics. Editors offer support to contributors who are not necessarily used to writing to support such submissions and help you tell your story. The specific form of this support will depend on the needs of the participants in cooperation with the editorial team.
We are very interested in the input and perspectives of those actively working on game development projects, and we also understand that game industry professionals may not have as much experience in the writing and editing processes involved in this project compared to contributors with a more academic background. education. As a 15-year gaming industry veteran who has recently learned how to research, write, and publish in this space, editor Trevin York is ready to support contributors who are also interested in sharing their processes through these types of writing projects.
