Hacking group Rhysida stole 1.67 terabytes of data from Sony developer Insomniac Games.
Cyber Daily reports that the gang made off with more than 1.3 million files from the studio. The breach occurred before December 12, the date Rhysida posted a message saying she had compromised Insomniac’s cybersecurity and was selling the stolen data. The group hoped to extort 50 bitcoins from PlayStation, worth about $2 million. A deadline of seven days was set, and anyone, including Sony, seemed open to bidding.
With Sony clearly not giving in to these demands, Rhysida is now releasing stolen information that generally pertains to Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine and Spider-Man projects. The group also made off with employee information, including passport scans and internal HR communications.
Rhysida tried to sell the entire data set but initially failed, although it now says that some data was purchased.
The group claims that the data it shares publicly accounts for 98 percent of what it has stolen.
